Truthfully, I've only ever seen how to tend a fire in movies, and simply imitated that. I'm glad it worked.

Lucky for us, flames are pretty good at taking care of themselves so long as they've got something dry to eat. I gather you haven't been doing much camping, then?

No, not really. My school field trips have never involved camping, and I haven't really been on vacations outside of that.

Nature isn't really "my jam," as they say. My brother has been camping; I prefer accommodations with more amenities and less...rustic "charm".

I suppose there are ways to enjoy nature without immersing oneself in it... Art itself is one such way.

Yeah, best to get it over with. At the very least there haven't been any unfortunate interactions with wildlife, so we're still doing better than yesterday.

We ran into some pushy sea life at the beach. Of course, there was no lasting damage...to us, anyway.

The only sea life I encountered was a singular crab, but it was quite beautiful.

The difference between successful people and those who have to scrape along to survive is that successful people take what they want once they have the right opportunity. So don't be passive. Permissions are for the servile; you should be demanding apologies if anything.

It is. My brother and I had nothing until I clawed our way to the top. Now I own Domino City. I assume you want to become a successful artist? You'll have to be ruthless, and grab onto every opening you can get to make them love you--or at least your earning potential.

Hmm... My Sensei's attitude was ruthless, and it's not something I ever wish to imitate. Art was just a hollow vehicle for him to acquire money and success... His greed blinded him enough that he would use anyone and anything in order to fulfil his ambition.

That is not the kind of artist I wish to be. I simply want to paint for the benefit of others.

That's a noble sentiment...all the easier to take advantage of. If you haven't got the interest to do it yourself, find a good agent to take care of the dirty work for you. A good lawyer, too.

...I mean, if you have the capacity to become a real pro. If you're not planning on leaving the farm leagues, you can probably afford to not be as serious.

I've humoured you so far, but I don't think you understand art, or the mindset of a true artist, at all. I fought hard to help combat greed in the art world; I will never perpetuate it myself. Not when I would become like my Sensei. He robbed the talents of countless children and ruined their lives, all so he could profit from their hard work.

Is that kind of ruthlessness admirable to you?

...For once, my opinion doesn't matter. It's admirable to enough people that you're going to run into someone or several someones, and they're going to try to screw you over. I'm saying protect yourself so you don't end up like those other kids.

I did protect myself. No one is going to take advantage of me ever again, and I won't exploit others in turn. And I didn't need to resort to the corrupt methods of the art world in order to do it.
